    While on vacation a few weeks ago I read something in the bulletin of a church we were visiting.  I saved it because it spoke a great truth.

    I MET THE STRANGEST MAN...

    He said he believes the Bible but never reads it.  He says prayer changes things...but he never prays.  He said he thinks well of the church...but he never attends.  He said people need the Lord...but he doesn't lead them to Him.  He said a man should be honest with God about money matters...but he never tithes.  He said the church needs dedicated people...but he isn't one.  He said the Lord is coming soon...but he lives as though He never will.  He is a strange man, indeed!

    We have had a great summer here at Bible Baptist Church.  The fall looks to be a season which will have great opportunities for growth and service.  Let me highlight a few:

    1.  "1 of 100 Soulwinning Campaign" - This is a church wide event to reach people for Christ.

    2.  Fall Revival - Dr. Raymond Barber is one of my favorites.  This year his wife Helen will speak to the ladies on Saturday (Sept. 29th).  Be at each meeting.

    3.  Ladies Spectacular - This great event for ladies (college age and older) is Oct. 25th - 27th and is held near Pensacola.  Pensacola Christian College does a great job hosting this event.

    4.  Men/Boys Retreat - On November 2nd - 3rd we will have a Men/Boys Retreat in Haines City, Florida.  Next Sunday we will have all the details and cost ready for you.  Do not miss this time as a group of men to see God work.

    Tomorrow is an important day for all families.  Tomorrow is the day that kids go back to school.  This day has always unofficially meant the end of the summer season.  I hope you pray for our students.  In the next few weeks our college students will make their way to colleges all over the country.  Pray for them as they travel and pursue greater studies.  This is a crucial time in their defining of God's will for their life.

    The Soul-Winner's Prayer

    Oh, give me, Lord, Thy love for souls,

    For lost and wand'ring sheep,

    That I may see the multitudes

    And weep as Thou didst weep.

    Help me to see the tragic plight

    Of souls far off in sin;

    Help me to love, to pray, and go

    To bring the wand'ring in.

    From off the altar of Thy Heart

    Take Thou some flaming coals,

    Then touch my life and give me, Lord,

    A heart that's hot for souls.

    O Fire of Love, O Flame Divine,

    Make Thy abode in me;

    Burn in my heart, burn evermore,

    Till I  burn out for Thee.

    Have you committed yourself to our "1 of 100" Soulwinning Campaign?  This is an entire church project which encourages each of us to be faithful at reaching others for Christ.  This is an entire church endeavor -

    The hymn "Nearer My God to Thee" may be rarely sung in many churches today, but it's message is just as timeless as ever.  It's message of consecration is powerful.  Sarah Fuller Flower wrote the words in 1841 and based the text on Jacob's dream at Bethel from Genesis 28:10-22.  Sarah Flower was born in Essex, England in 1805, the daughter of journalist and politician Benjamin Fowler.  Sarah performed as a Shakespearean actress until poor health cut her career short.  She turned to writing hymn lyrics and articles of encouragement for Christians.  Her most famous hymn is "Nearer My God to Thee" which has comforted so many.

    Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee!  E'en though it be a cross That raiseth me; Still all my song shall be, Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to thee.

    Though like the wanderer, The sun gone down, Darkness be over me, My rest a stone; Yet in my dreams I'd be Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee.

    There let the way appear Steps unto Heav'n; All that Thou sendest me In mercy giv'n; Angels to beckon me Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee.

    Then, with my waking thoughts Bright with Thy praise, Out of my stony griefs, Bethel I'll raise; So by my woes to be Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to Thee.

    Or if on joyful wing, Cleaving the sky, Sun, moon,  and stars forgot,   Upward I fly, Still all my song shall be Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee.

    The physician of President William McKinley reported that among the President's last words were, "Nearer my God
