    The Heart of a Child
Whatever you write on the heart of a child
    No water can wash away,
The sand may be shifted when billows are wild
And the efforts of time may decay.

    Some stories may perish,
    Some songs forgotten;
    But this graven record --
    Time changes it not.

Whatever you write on the heart of a child,
A story of gladness, or care,
That heaven has blessed, or earth has defiled,
    Will linger unchangeably there.
Who writes it has sealed it forever and aye,
He must answer to God on the judgment day.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is
old, will not depart from it.”—Prov. 22:6

It is critical in the day in which we live to have a true heart for God.  How wonderful that God wants a personal relationship with you and me.  You cannot have a true heart for God until you know Him as your personal Savior.  The human heart itself is truly amazing.  Your heart beats an average of seventy-five times a minute, forty million times a year and two and half billion times by the time a person is seventy years old.  With each beat, the average adult heart pumps four ounces of blood.  This amounts to three thousand gallons a day and over one million gallons a year.  Your heart produces enough energy in a twelve hour period to lift a sixty-five ton railroad car.

Just like it is good to take care of your physical heart, a healthy spiritual heart is just a vital.  Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”  This verse encourages us to guard the heart and careful of all that comes near it.  Things may so affect the heart so as to divide it and create such a division that is harmful.  No doubt we all have had a time in our life when the heart has had divisions which resulted in a dismal heart for God, rather that a true heart for God.

Let me give us a few areas that if applied will keep you and I with a genuine heart for God.

    1. Love the Lord.  The Bible commands us to “love the Lord” 250 times.
    2. Walk in all His Ways.  Follow His directions no matter where He leads
    3. .Keep His Commandments.  These commandments in Scripture are given to guard your heart for God.
    4. Cleave unto Him.  The glue in your life is the Lord Jesus Christ.
    5. Serve Him.  It is the highest honor for a man to serve God and bring Him glory.

Have a true heart for God!

'Before the tomb Christ stood one day,
And dried the people's tears away,
As He spoke forth in mighty voice
    That made Judea's hills rejoice:
    'Come forth!'.

Inside the tomb Christ lay one morn,
    Defeated seemed salvation's horn:
But God the Father spoke the word,
And this He said though no man heard:
    'Come forth!'.

Inside the tomb of sin I lay,
The price of sin I had to pay,
But Christ the raiser of the dead
Spoke to my poor bound soul and said:
    'Come forth!'.

And when the great and final sound
Shall raise our loved ones from the ground,
T'will be the last time we shall hear
That glorious sound upon our ear:
    'Come forth!'.

Today  we  welcome  Dr.  Shelton  Smith  to  the  pulpit  of  Bible Baptist Church.  Dr. Smith has been my pastor for 30 years.  His passion for years has been to win the lost to Christ and grow the saints in the image of Christ.  Now as the editor of The Sword of the Lord, he is extending his passion around the world.  If  you  do  not  receive  The  Sword  of  the Lord periodical, I encourage you  to  order  it  today.  Please welcome Dr. Smith today.

Next week is Easter Sunday join with us as we celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Who  have  you  invited to  be  with  you  next  Sunday?  This Sunday is one in which people are looking to be in church somewhere.  There will be wonderful  music and a message on the life - changing prayer of the resurrection.  Invite family, friends, co-workers, neighbors and everyone you know to be with us on this day.

Over the years I have had a number of people ask me about visiting some of the great biblical sights of Paul’s journeys.  Over the last few weeks I have been putting this trip together and next Sunday evening after the service I will meet with all those who are interested in going in March 2011.  This trip will include the seven churches listed in Revelation (Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamus, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, Laodicea) as well as Hierapolis, Colossae, Troas, Philippi, Thessalonica, Berea, Corinth and Athens.  We will also take a ferry to the Isle of Patmos where John received the Revelation.  This will be an amazing trip that will allow you to know more of God’s Word through these sights in Turkey and Greece.  Come to the meeting in the choir room and get the information if you are at all interested.  May God bless you today

A friend is a “ a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard.”  This is the dictionary definition.  Today is “Friend Day” here at our church.  If you are visiting today then no doubt you have a person who considers you a friend.  As pastor let me welcome you to our church.  You are in a great place with a group of people that are not perfect, yet love the Lord.  Let me give you a few thoughts on friendship:

    1. Everybody needs friends.
    2. In order to have friends, a man must show himself friendly. (Proverbs 18:24)
    3. What we do in life has an effect upon our friends.
    4. “A friend loveth at all times.”  (Proverbs 17:17)
    5. A friend will be honest yet loving with you.  (Proverbs 27:6)
    6. A friend keeps a confidence. (Proverbs 17:9)
    7. "There is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”  (Proverbs 18:24)  Just so you know, His name is the Lord Jesus Christ.

I am glad you are here today.  If you do not know my Friend, the Lord Jesus Christ, I invite you to know Him today.  He is the King of Kings and will be your Friend of Friends.  If you are visiting with us today, let me once again welcome you and thank you for being with us.

Remember that Easter is in just two weeks.  Be sure to be with us that day as we celebrate the resurrection of Christ.  The day will be filled with great music and biblical preaching.  Invite others to join with you on that day.  May God bless you.

You may have noticed more work going on around our property over the last week. Someone said to me, “It seems like something is always going on around this church.” I guess they are right. We are now completing the construction of our new full-size outdoor basketball court. Let me thank all of you who have come out to help us in the process of getting this project to completion. Brother Joe Shivick has done a great job in overseeing this project through each phase with a great host of our workers. This coming week we will place the order for the new playground equipment. The church property is shaping up so nicely. Let me remind all of you who have “adopted an island” in the parking lot to take a look at your island for weeds. It is the time where they start making their appearance again. Thank you for making the property look so wonderful and neat.

It is obvious that there is great concern for the direction of our nation. Although there are political issues which greatly disturb me, it is the continual degradation and ignoring of God and His Word which so greatly brings a blight on our nation. This week there will be a “tea party” held at Mixon Fruit Farm at 2712 26th Ave. East here in Bradenton. It will be held this Thursday (April 15th - Tax Day) beginning at 5:30 PM. I will be speaking at this free event as well as my friend Attorney David Gibbs III of Christian Law Association. They are expecting a large crowd and I would love to see you there. Continue to pray for our nation. The best thing we can do is to keep spreading the gospel of Christ everywhere we go.

Just a note to tell you how much I love being your pastor. God is doing a great work in the midst of us. Thank you for allowing God to use you.
