    ·        In a wood-The Proper Name, Horesh, Where the mountain Was Located
    ·        Jonathan…went to David-Saul Considered His Son a Co-Conspirator
    ·        Thou shalt be king-David’s Final Success Was Inevitable
    ·        He strengthened his hand in God-By Unbroken Love & Assurance of God’s Choice
    ·        I shall be next unto thee-Friendship Covenant Promise
    ·        Jonathan went to his house-The Two Friends Parted Never to Meet Again
    ·        The Ziphites-Some of the People of Ziph Betrayed David
    ·        Hill of Hachilah-A High Ridge Running Eastward From Ziph Towards the Dead Sea Desert
    ·        Our part…deliver him into the king’s hand-We Know the Land and Will Guide You to David

    ·        The Philistines Had to Decide that the Time Was Right to Raid Israel
    ·        An Israelite Runner Had to Be Dispatched to Get Help From the King
    ·        When the Runner Reached the Palace From the North, Someone Had to Know Where Saul Had Gone
    ·        Some Had to Know That Saul Continued From Ziph to Maon
    ·        The Timing of All This Was Critical
    ·        Saul Had No Alternative But to Return to the North & Confront the Philistines
    ·        God is No Less Concerned for Us Than He Was for David
    ·        God Has Chosen Every Believer & Has A Plan for Our Lives
    ·        Strong holds at Engedi-The Spring of the Young Goat

    Deliverance at Keilah                 1 Samuel 23:1-13 
    ·        Keilah-City a Few Miles South of Adullam, Overlooking the Elah Valley
    ·        Rob the threshing floor-Grain Piled From the Harvest
    ·        David enquired of the LORD-Through Abiathar & the Usual Way of Consulting God by the Urim & Thummim
    ·        This Inquiry Became the Practice of David’s Life-To Wait on God (Ps 27:14)
    ·        Somewhere in the Breastplate or Attached to it Were Two Diamond Stones
    ·        They Were to Be Kept Near the Heart (Ex 28:30)
    ·        On the Stones Were Engraved the Holy Name of Jehovah in Secret Characters
    ·        If the Answer Was No; the Light of the Stones Dimmed
    ·        If the Answer Was Yes; The Light Flashed With Splendor
    ·        The Methods of Determining God’s Will Changed Through History
    ·        Pillar of Cloud, Urim & Thummim, Prophets, White Stone (Rev 2:17)
    ·        The Word White Means Lustrous or Diamond
    ·        Each Christian Has A White Stone or New Heart or Nature (2 Cor 5:17)
    ·        Studying God’s Word & Waiting Upon Him in Prayer Gives Light
    ·        LORD said Go…smite…save-God’s Will Was to Go
    ·        We be afraid-Two Battle Fronts At Once
    ·        Enquired of the LORD yet again-To Remove the Doubts of His Men
    ·        Smote them with a great slaughter-Unexpected Attack with the Help of the LORD
    ·        Brought away their cattle-Sheep & Goats
    ·        God hath delivered him into my hand-Hopeless to Hunt David in the Wild; Shut Up in a Town Improved the Odds
    ·        Town…hath gates and bars-Give Up David or Prepare for the Horror of a Siege
    ·        Saul secretly practiced mischief-Thought Evil Towards David
    ·        David knew-Can’t Hide the Movement of an Army
    ·        David Prays for Answers Using the Urim & Thummim
    ·        Went withersoever they could go-Left With No Fixed Plan

    Massacre of the Priests at Nob            1 Sam 22:6-23 
    ·        David was discovered-Was Known, But Not The Specific Place
    ·        Saul abode in Gibeah under a tree-Took His Seat in a Grove on a Hill; Probably a Tamarisk Tree
    ·        Having his spear in his hand-Javelin as a Scepter
    ·        Servants were standing about him-A Court of Officers Taking Their Posts in Order Around Him
    ·        Ye Benjamites-Nepotism
    ·        Will the son of Jesse give every one of you-Redistribution of Wealth & Favoritism
    ·        You have conspired against me-Saul Turns Upon Them & Accuses Them of Working Together
    ·        Sheweth me that my son-They Concealed the Relationship of Jonathan & David
    ·        To lie in wait-David is Secretly Plotting My Murder
    ·        Doeg…set over the servants of Saul-Stood Over With the Servants
    ·        I saw the son of Jesse-Evil Intent of Turning the King’s Suspicions From the Officers to the Priests
    ·        Doeg saw the Perfect Opportunity for Political Advantage & Further Advancement
    ·        Doeg Tells Only One Side of the Story; Half-Truths Are Lies
    ·        All his father’s house-Doeg Implied That All the Priests Were David’s Allies
    ·        Saul said, Hear now…conspired-An Arraignment Before the Court for Treason
    ·        Thou son of Ahitub-Means Good Brother; Ahimelech Means Brother of the King
    ·        Rehearses the 3 Points of Doeg as Conclusive Proofs of Guilt
    ·        Ahimelech’s Answers Are Those of an Innocent Man Who Had Supposed That His Actions Were Normal
    ·        His Listing of David’s Privileges of Rank Probably Only Embittered Saul
    ·        Is so faithful-Ahimelech Thought David to Be the Most Faithful of Saul’s Officers
    ·        Goeth at thy bidding-Admission to the Royal Presence Unbidden
    ·        Did I then begin to enquire of God for him?-Consult God by the Urim & Thummim
    ·        Thy servant knew nothing of all this-Acted in Good Faith Based on Who David Was
    ·        Footmen-Runners
    ·        Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD-A Command (Deut 24:16)
    ·        Would not put forth their hand-Disobeyed a Direct Order From the King
    ·        The king said to Doeg,Turn thou-Not Satisfied, Saul Orders Doeg
    ·        Slew in that day(85)-Barbarian Massacre Unparalleled in Jewish History by One of Their Own
    ·        And Nob the city of the priests, smote he-Not Satisfied, His Rage Destroyed Whole Families & Livestock
    ·        Disturbing, But Part of God’s Plan
    ·        God Promised Eli’s Priestly Family Would Be Replaced by Zadok (1 Sam 2:27-36 & 1 Ki 2:26-27)
    ·        Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David-Probably Left in Charge of the Sanctuary at Nob
    ·        And Abiathar shewed David-Messenger of Bad News (Matt 7:21)
    ·        I have occassioned the death-He Took Responsibility for the Murders
    ·        To Claim We Are Justified in Our Behavior in a Certain Action is Called Situational Ethics
    ·        He that seeketh my life seeketh thy life-Oneness of Safety & Friendship
    ·        David’s Army Now Had Gad the Prophet, Abiathar the Priest & David the King

    Adullam                1 Samuel 22:1-5 
    ·        Adullam-Means Refuge
    ·        The Cave & The Lessons
    ·        A Rejected King Was on the Throne
    ·        Saul Was Rejected & Lost the Power of the Holy Spirit
    ·        The Sentence of Removal Was Pronounced, But Awaited Fulfillment
    ·        Satan Was Once an Anointed Cherub Until Unrighteousness was Found in Him
    ·        The Title “the prince of this world” May Mean He Once Was to Rule Over This World (Jn 12:31)
    ·        Man Was Created to Take Satan’s Place (Heb 2:6-7) Even Though the Power is Not Yet Fulfilled (Heb 2:8)
    ·        Satan is Permitted to Hold the Throne of the World & Has Cast “Javelins” at Christ (Temptation, Gethsemane)
    ·        Satan Has Been Doing His Worst to Eliminate the Impact of the Body of Believers in Christ, While Knowing His Own Destiny
    ·        David’s Kingdom Was Hidden
    ·        It was A True Kingdom, But Veiled in the Darkness of Adullum
    ·        Jesus was Forsaken on the Cross & Rejected by the World
    ·        Jesus Kingdom is Hidden From the World in Mystery Awaiting the Appointed Time
    ·        David & His Followers Were Separated
    ·        David Was Driven From the Camp of Israel
    ·        David’s Way to the Throne Would Be Through Multiplied Difficulties & Sorrows
    ·        David’s Followers Must Forsake Their Former Life
    ·        The True King, Christ, is Still Outside the Camp
    ·        Desiring to Follow Him Means Forsaking the Love of this World (Heb 13:13)
    ·        David Was Content to Await God’s Timing
    ·        Whatever Saul Did, David Never Retaliated
    ·        David Waited Upon God (Ps 62:5)
    ·        Our Savior is Waiting Today Until His Enemies Be Made His Footstool (Ps 110:1)
    ·        The Inmates of the Cave
    ·        David’s Return to Judah Spread Quickly & Mysteriously
    ·        Those Who Were in Misery, Oppressed, Poor, & Bitter in Soul Came to Him
    ·        It Was No Small Feat to Organize & Lead A Group Like That Into an Army
    ·        Jesus is Currently Gathering Into His Kingdom Those Who Are Sinners; Brokenhearted, Bruised, Blind
    ·        Jesus is Making Us Into Soldiers Who Will Win the Lost to Himself
    ·        The New Life Within the Cave
    ·        David Drew These Followers From Saul & the Decadent Lifestyle
    ·        When We Come to Jesus We Become Strangers & Pilgrims in This Current World
    ·        David’s Followers Put Off the Customs & Manners of Their Old Life
    ·        We Put Off the Old Man & Take on the New
    ·        David’s Men Loved Him for the Relief They Found As His Followers in the Cave
    ·        Jesus Gives Us More Than Relief Through the Paying of Our Debts & Granting of Riches in Christ
    ·        The Attachment Between David & His Followers Grew Through the Years
    ·        What An Incentive for Us to Make Our Fellowship Grow Closer Each Day
    ·        The 34th Psalm is Connected to the Cave of Adullam
    ·        David, A Believer, Counted on These Promises:
    ·        Deliverance (Vs 4,7,17 & 19)
    ·        Enlightenment (V5)
    ·        Perfect Provision (V10)
    ·        God’s Closeness (V18)
    ·        Miszpeh of Moab-Means a Watch Tower
    ·        Let my…come forth, and be with you-Refuge on the Basis That Jesse’s Grandmother, Ruth, Was a Moabitess
    ·        While David was in the hold-In Moab
    ·        Till I know what God will do for me-David Recovered Spiritually & Was Willing to Accept God’s Will
    ·        The prophet Gad-David’s Counselor, a Result of the Massacre of Nob
    ·        Abide not in the hold-Leave Moab & Return to Judah
    ·        The forest of Hareth-Thickets Near Adullam
