The Salt & Its Savor                                                Matt 5:13
¡  Setting
¡  Spoken by Jesus After the Beatitudes; A Hillside by the Sea of Galilee
¡  The Parable Deals With Christian Witness & Influence
¡  The Elements
¡  salt-We Think of This Element For Its Taste
¡  Salt Was Used Primarily, in Ancient Times, as A Preservative
¡  Salt is Not Antiseptic
¡  Salt Does Not Cure Corruption, it Prevents it’s Spread
¡  salt have lost his savor-Loses Its Saltiness or Becomes Tasteless
¡  have lost his savor (mōranthē) –More Common Meaning is To Make or Become Foolish (Rom 1:22 & 1Cor 1:20)
¡  wherewith shall it be salted-Restored To Its Original Condition
¡  cast out… trodden under foot-Used for Foot Path Material
¡  Interpretation
¡  Salt-Christians, Those Saved by Grace Through Faith Alone
¡  of the earth-The Mission Field is the World
¡  Two Observations About the World:
¡  The World is Progressively Advancing Into Corruption
¡  The World is Worth Preserving, Otherwise Why Salt It?
¡  As Salt, We Are to Be a Moral & Spiritual Preventative to the Spread of Sin’s Corruptive Influence
¡  lost his savor -We Must Not Compromise & Permit or Add to the Unsavory Conditions Around Us (Col 4:6)
¡  Saints Cannot Lose Their Souls, But They Can Lose Their Saltiness
¡  To be cast out and trodden- Has Nothing To Do With Eternal Security
¡  This Phrase Refers to the World’s Response to Christians Who Do Not Function As They Should
¡  When Christians Are Removed by Rapture, the Effects of Evil Will Be Unchecked
¡  Christians Can Only Be Effective If We Maintain Our Testimonies
