The Leaven & The Meal Matt 13:33 • The Setting • Still at the Sea of Galilee; Spoken After the Mustard Seed Parable • This Parable Was the Last Before Sending the Multitude Away • This Parable Predicts the Internal Doctrinal Corruption of the Church • Many Interpret This as the Spread of the Gospel and That the Leaven in This Parable is Good • till the whole was leavened-The Whole Becomes Good?-Then There is No Mixture; Contrary to the Other Parables! • a woman took, and hid-Do We Hide the Gospel or Proclaim it? • The Three Elements • The Leaven • How Was Leaven Used At This Time to Make Bread? • A Piece of Fermented Dough Was Kept Over From a Former Baking • The Lump was Either: • Dissolved in Water in the Kneading Trough Before the Flour was Added, or • Hid or Inserted in the Flour and Kneaded Along With It • Leaven, Throughout Scripture, is Used to Signify That Which is Bad, Corrupt or Unsound • Some Scripture on Leaven: • Food for Angels Must Not Be Contaminated With Evil (Gen 19:3) • Sacrifices by Fire to The Lord Were Not With Leaven (Ex 34:25) • To the Jews, Leaven Was a Symbol of Evil • The Leaven of the Pharisees was Hypocrisy and Legalism • The Leaven of the Sadducees was a Denial of the Supernatural • Paul Used the symbol of Leaven as Evil (1 Cor 5:6-8) • Leaven is Uniformly a Symbol of Corruption and Evil • Additionally, When Leaven is Mixed with Meal it Causes the Dough to Swell • The Woman • The Symbol of a Woman is Used Three Ways in Scripture: • As A Kingdom (Is 47:5) • As A City (Jer 6:2; Isa 3:26; Ezek 24:6-7) • As A Church (Gal 4:26 & Rev 12:1) • Many See the Catholic Church as the Woman, Since it Represents a City (Rome), a Kingdom (the Vatican) and a Church • If the Leaven is the Gospel, Then the Woman is Against Scriptural Teaching • The Lord Did Not Commit the Gospel into the Hands of Women • Hiding the Leaven (if it is the Gospel) is Against the Plan of God • Hiding is the Reverse of Preaching the Word (2 Tim 4:2) • Hiding and the Scattering of False Doctrine Go Together (Gal 2:4, 2 Pet 2:11-12, Jude 4-5) • The Three Measures of Meal • This is a Bible Phrase with a Definite Meaning • First Mention, Abraham Prepared a Meal for the Lord (Gen 18:6) • According to the Law, the Smallest Amount that Could Be Offered as a Meal Offering is the Tenth Part of an Ephah (Ex 16:36) • Three Tenths Was the Usual Offering and is Mentioned 7 Times in Numbers (15:9; 28:12,20; 29:3,9,14) • So, the Three Measures Represents a Meal of Fellowship & Communion • The Parable Interpretation • The Leaven Predicts the Devils Efforts to Corrupt the Church From Within
